If you hold a multiple geared kart in any one gear, the acceleration from 0 rpm to 15,000rpm to infinity rpm in that gear will track, exactly, the torque curve. Maximum torque will coincide exactly with the point of maximum acceleration.

By changing gear, your are taking advantage of torque multiplication to increase rear wheel thrust. At a given speed, one of the say, six gears, will provide greater rear wheel thrust. That gear will be the one that puts the engine at the rpm of greatest power.
