They have a potentially dangerous weak spot on the steering column bottom mounting plate.
Due to the constant downward pushing on the steering wheel, the plate starts to crack across where it's welded to the front chassis rail.
It can reach the point where it can completely detach from the tube.
On our Kosmic and Exprit, as a precaution, I have always fitted a steering column collar to the top of the steering column boss, as well as the compulsory collar below the boss.
This transfers the thrust on to the steering column support tubes which are better suited to absorb the thrust.
If you look at the top of the steering column above the boss and you see a dirty ring starting to appear when you push down on the steering wheel, then you should examine the plate where it joins the chassis and see if there is a crack starting down the sides of the plate at the weld, it looks like a dirty scratch.
If it is cracking, get it welded before it spreads.
Fit one before trouble starts.
