If you take the axle out with the bearings and carriers, as obviously you can't get the axle itself out, you can grip it in a vice and lever it off.

Plenty of penetrating oil first, not WD40, and warm the axle while it's clamped, then the vice keeps the key cool and the axle warm.

Its got to be a good vice, not one of the cheapos.
