Yes, it does make a HUGE difference! (the 40 to 45 is on the FRONT!)
However, by all means, doubt us.... and TEST it! You don't even need to MOVE your seat to find out!
Try THIS:-
1) Take the kart out and warm everything correctly.
2) Now, simply lean forward about 1 FOOT in your seat as you enter a corner.... then give FULL throttle....
3) When you have picked yourself out of the barriers after your HUGE oversteer off the track... you'll note what happened!
Next..... try it in the WET!
Whw you are plagues by the usual violent understeer on entry to a corner, just LEAN OVER THE STEERING WHEEL and feel the effect.... you'll know how to re-start from your VIOLENT spin from previously.....
So... you'll be able to work out what benefits your kart best, simply by moving in the seat. If you have oversteer, lean BACKWARDS. If you have spinning rear wheels under power (e.g., in damp conditions) lean BACKWARD and feel the traction change. When you have understeer, lean FORWARD.
If the handlin of the kart improves by moving leabning forward by (let's guess) 6 inches, you can be pretty damned sure your weight if too far BACK.... and vice versa! So....move something until it does NOT needyou to move so much in your seat!
As a rough rule of thumb, 40:60 is good in the dry but 45:55 works better in the wet. So... pre-drill your seat (our make a second, wet seather seat) with the holes correctly -laced to give you more forward settings for the wet.
But....before you drill that wet-weather seat, try placing a cushion under your bum in the wet and see how MUCH better you kart handles than with you on the floor..... now you'll be able to make your 'wet-weather seat' so that it takes you further forward..... and UPWARDS!
