You may want to go to various tracks in your area, with this sport being fairly exclusive one to enter (by that what I mean is that you cant just go down the road and find a track you like)

You may find the track closest to you may not seem amazingly welcoming or you may just not like the layout of the track... various factors may make u join one kart club over the other?

I have to travel 1 hour in either direction to get to a MSA approved track where you can race your own kart... there is a kart track only 15 minutes up the road but its not MSA approved

I have also just started karting, I started to look into karting just about 11 months agao, i am just about to enter my 3rd race meeting... great fun! but didnt buy the first kart i saw!

The chap who said what ever your bedget is WILL be a factor which class to enter, yes the ROTAX is the most common but it is also one of the most expensive so dont be too disheartened if you set your heart on it then realise its far too expensive!? TKM being the budget class

I was very lucky when I went to clay pigeon kart club, they were all so very helpful and welcoming! I first went to the onsite kart shop and was advised that the Rotax is the only class to get into as the TKM was non existant... but its not... after speaking to alot of ppl at the track (the kart club itself), it seemed the kart shop likes Rotax as they earn more money from it - the other problem I have been told with Rotax is the deeper your pocket the better your gonna be and the faster your gona go, where as the TKM is more even as not so much can be done to your kart... but still plenty for you to tinker with (the engine is not sealed so you can tinker to your hearts content!)

I also advise that you go to a few local tracks and tell them that your looking into starting up (especially if is a shop) they will bend over backwards to get you some free track time in one of there karts (hoping that you may buy one from them?) so dont worry about paying or buying just yet!

If you want to see the sort of budget I am working to, check out my website (sorry for you guys who have already see it - your gona get bored of me plugging it!)

I have got all my expensise on the along with various other stuff

anyways, hope that all helps!
Pete
