what kart do you drive greg haha, sounds a bit odd but things are different for everyone. Rear end generally you run the rear end wider to loose grip and narrower to gain grip, thats why in the wet the wheels are usually on the inside on the pods which is now illegal in most classes except tkm. As for the length, a shorter hub should allow more flex on the rear axle and allow the kart to release more so in the hot you would run shorter hubs, but then if you overhang the axle a longer hub is an idea. In the wet you want to stiffen the rear end so you run the long hubs and move the wheels in, but again a shorter hub will allow you to get the rears in more. This is the case for anything up to a 30mm axle, a 40mm and 50mm axle is a little different as the hubs already overhang the axle so then you begin to get into cutting axles shorter etc. Personally I stick with short hubs all the time. its all about testing though and you should get out there and test things for yourself. Some karts may react different to others, theres no book of rules on what a kart does at all, its all trial and error. The above is my personal experience and I know most would agree with it. trust me though there is a lot of theory behind things that isnt worth getting into, I could write a dissertation on the subject and infact I am haha! I hope my explanation makes some sence lol.
