Clause 160, explains it’s use.
160. There is no mandatory requirement for a CIK Crash-Tested and Homologated rear protection system for National events. For all classes except Cadets a CIK Crash-Tested and Homologated rear protection system in accordance to the CIK regulations may be used in lieu of a rear bumper, but only for CIK chassis homologated from 1.1.2006, or chassis compliant with the post 2006 CIK Chassis Regulations.
So, for all but post 2006 CIK Homologated chassis it’s illegal.
The big question is;
If you use a CIK rear bumper are you still subject to this rule?, as they tend to be wider than the steel ones
162. The rear bumper must: Have an overall width not exceeding the rear width of the kart at any time (measured to the outside of the rear wheels or tyres, whichever is the greater).
