BTW it's not my Birthday until June so it's a slightly early present - I'm sure there'll be more...

The weather station is a La Cross WS-9040 and it definitely only displays relative pressure. You have to manually set the reference point and, in the small print, it recommends the unit is always used at the same altitude. I can only assume the reference point I have to input is the pressure at sea level, it then offsets the "local/absolute" reading against this
