It's nearly ALWAYS a mistake with 2 strokes!
As a 'naugthy boy' in my youth, we used to use a trick in the gearbox classes if you had a 'lowly' (back of the....) grid placing. You simply delayed your arrival AT the grid for as long as you were able. The advantage was that you KNEW the fornt row would be:-
* stressing their clutches (over heating them) * over heating their engines (blipping the throttles on the grid while standing still) because they were getting no 'air' over the engines or water through their radiators if water cooled * Oiling up APPALLINGLY!
It WAS risky: firstly, you COULD be penalised by a clever CoC (but that was rare) becasue you could always pretend you had a 'problem'. and secondly, the guys on the front MIGHT stall or even seize and you'd be arriving at their rear bumper at a SIGNIFICANT speed when you finally dropped the clutch..... however, if you stayed awake and WATCHED the front row.... it was worth the risk...... your fellow drivers HATED you for doing it, though..... even though THEY would do it to you in the NEXT heat when YOU had 'pole'!
If it's a problem with speed..... then it's NOT rfocket science..... simply control the SPEED... that's ALL we'd need to do!
