Hello,

I'm getting back into karting after a long-ish break and a bit of a false start. I've been doing a lot of indoor karting to try and get my technique improved and at the same time getting my old TKM sorted out.

I'd like to have passed my test by the end of the year with a view to upgrading my kart in 2010 and doing some race meetings (I dont think my kart would be allowed to take part in races as it's a 1990s TKM chassis and I've heard they're no longer ok to use at MSA venues).

What I'm a bit puzzled about is the licence system. If I passed my test this year would I have to apply for a licence straight away? It seems a waste of money doing that as I wouldnt use it til 2010 and I'd have to renew it in January, wouldnt I?

I'd appreciate some guidance on licences and the test - whats the most efficient option here?
