We had a similar problem with a Alfano Pro 2 a few months back. It turned out to be the position of the magnetic sensor that was causing the problems. The Alfano guide advised to locate the sensor at the front of the kart between the pedals, but ours didn't work there. Once we relocated it to as far back on the floor tray we could get it worked great. We drilled two holes one to secure the sensor and one larger hole to allow clear line of sight, so to speak, with the tarmac.

As stated previously Alfanos start doing some strange things with low batteries, advisable to carry a spare.
