As mentioned above, we have always used 2 plastic ones. To get the one over the sprocket carrier probably depends upon the style of its rim. Have a look at various sprockets (used to get mine from DK) and the inner rim has cut outs in to allow it to be passed over the carrier at a bit of an angle. Just replicate this design to the protector and hey presto. Also I have overdrilled and "sleeved" the holes in the plastic protectors with some metal tube (an m6 plain nut drilled out does fine too) and used penny washers either side of the protectors. This then ensures that the mounting bolts can be done up tightly without compressing the plastic and ensuring the whole thing stays tightly done up for the duration of the meeting.
