I wear a Leatt when biking as I know several people who have been paralysed through damage to their neck/spine when crashing. The Leatt is designed to prevent, or at least reduce, this sort of injury. There may be other injuries caused, but hopefully they would have less of an effect on people's lives.

I don't know of anyone who has been paralysed or killed when karting due to neck/spine trauma, so maybe there's less of a case in karting. Neck brace use is growing in extreme biking and MX so many are making the choice.

Given the choice to use protective gear to keep me alive or out of a wheelchair, I'd use the gear. The same applies to my Dad, he always insists that I use the best protective kit, even though it costs a lot more than karting protective kit. Believe it or not, the biking I do costs a LOT more than karting. I'd hate to look back and think "what if I had been wearing a brace" ...

My choice, I choose to protect myself as best I can so that I can fully enjoy myself.
