So.... if you lost a leg and that meant that you lost your well paid job...... and that meant that YOU lost your house.... and that meant that your wife and kids lost their house, too.....
..... you'd still only want 6 months (while the injury healed over) wages as compensation......???
Really?
You're simply wrong: all the money in the world wouldn't bring yotur LEG back but it could return your life to BEARABLE. The aim of such payments is to return you, as far as FINANCIALLY possible, to where you would have been had you NOT had the accident.
Lifting:
So, all those people who DON'T know how to 'lift' simply should be allowed to suffer BECAUSE of their ignorance of the CORRECT way to lift? Does that apply to those who use a welding torch too? Surely, THEY don't need to be taught, either? What sort of imbecile welds near flammable material? What sort of fool can't see that the leaving the taps OPEN is NOT a good idea?
What about those using an industrial guillotine? Damn it: even my CAT knows not to put his paw under such a lethal device. So... why the HELL should THEY need training, either? And driving? My GOD.... everyone knows the order of the traffic lights.... why do you NEED driving instructors......? (test THAT one out.... se EXACTLY how many of your friends KNOW the correct sequence! Then try it on driving members of the public, e.g., girlfriends, mum, NON-racing friends..... you'll be SHOCKED! Then ask a few learners.....)
Your argument is that if it's SIMPLE, like lifting, then you shouldn't need training. So.. exactly HOW complex is it to know that you don't leave your fingers under a guillotine when you use it?????
H&S only covers things that you are EXPECTED to do for your work and limits your 'bosses' from asking you to do DANGEROUS things. The legislation and advice is CRUDE and is aimed at the WEAKEST member. It, therefore, OVER compensates. The 5kg limit is set for WEAK people who should STILL be allowed to WORK!
You lifting a kart twice a week for a HOBBY has to be compared to some poor b*gg*r doing it 200 times PER DAY, 7 days per week, 45 weeks of the year... JUST so they can keep their job!
Please STOP trying to pretend I am saying that there are NO sillinesses in H&S! Of COURSE there are..... just like the sillinesses in Drink Driving laws! However, you don't throw out DD laws BECAUSE they are silly in SOME areas..... likewise, you MUSTN'T throw out H&S rules becasue of THEIR sillinesses. By all MEANS.... fight to chnage the laws where it is POSSIBLE but be realistic about the changes you are requesting....... or do you FANCY the death rate of the Greek Olympic's construction crew......???
