But you could argue that clever drivers would also note where 'ramming' wasn't being 'watched', too. You, like me, feel that ramming is NOT acceptable (even though we have BOTH done it) and should be stamped out. We both accept that it will NEVER be stamped out completely but that doesn't stop us wanting to see action taken about it when it IS seen.

In exactly the same way, action could be taken to enforce the white line rules:

1) Announce that action IS going to be taken about it during THIS meeting at the Driver's Briefing stating CLEARLY that karts repeatedly crossing the white lines WILL be 'black flagged' in line with rule XYZ! Make CERTAIN that they all know that you ARE going to enforce it!

2) Place a 'discrete' video camera 'observing' a SINGLE corner. Place an 'observer' to select half a dozen LEADING drivers who cross that white line more than (let's say) 3 times in a single heat and PUBLICLY and LOUDLY issue black flags to each of them. (The video is only there for 'illustration' purposes where a driver claims that he DID NOT cross the line... not as PROOF that he DID cross the line! Black Flagging from observer's actions do NOT require video nor can they be appealed)

3) Arrange for the 'Tannoy' to ANOUNCE the reason they (probably) have been black flagged.

4) Do that for a few heats.

5) Place some observers at MORE than one corner for the finals

JOB DONE!

In ALL walks of life, the 'zero tolerance' approach has been shown to improve ALL 'behaviour'. Enforcing STRICT 'no litter' rules or strict 'no street drunkenness' rules has been PROVED to reduce OTHER crimes in that same location.

When people see that you ARE going to enforce the rules, they THINK about the rules more clearly! I would suggest that it would have EXACTLY the same effect on OTHER 'misdemeanours' in karting. Enforce the white line rule VIGOROUSLY and we will probably see less 'raming' too!
