If the disc is above the chassis rails you don't need a protector.

F1 drivers launch their cars across curbs, why can't karters? In fact, wasn't Singapore criticised for actually having too aggressive curbs at a corner? I think the use of curbs is an evolution of the sport, with the example being set by F1.
Of course, after the French GP, we can assume that we won't see a mechanical flag for a broken exhaust hanging on by a piece of wire!!!
