Agreed QOT. Its the parents/kids dynamic and the over-emphasis on seriousness. Here's a classic example. I was racing at Rye on Sunday and saw this parent lambaste their poor cadet kid for not improving his times. The kid got such a dressing down over it. He looked petrified and the parent looked highly strung to say the least. Now imagine if anyone else impeded their objectives, what do you think the outcome would be ? Yes, conflict of some sort.

Its clear that these people think they will be making a career for their kid out of motorsport. They think its a path to riches. How sad they are. Karting is first and foremost fun. If you're not enjoying it, don't spread your misery to others. Just get out and stay out.

QOT is right. Karting was a sport in its own right. True a very small number of people went on to race cars, but the vast majority remained in the sport and did it as a hobby, a means of enjoyment.
