Hi Chris27, if tyre softeners are allowed the problem is they claim to only be effective for 2 to 3 laps and the most effective treatments are generally carcinogenic. Also teams would make up their own potions of chemical treatment and nobody else would know how safe and what was in them.

Tyre softeners would ultimately add to the cost of racing because people would treat brand new tyres anyway. It is on these safety and cost grounds that the MSA is correct to enforce the use of control tyres for equality across each karting class.
